Auburn Botanic Gardens
April 16th 2009 14:05
Tucked away in the western suburbs of Sydney are 9.2 hectares of parklands that make up the Auburn Botanic Gardens.
The main attraction and the first thing you see when you enter the gardens is the Japanese Garden complete with a lake, waterfall, lookout, bridges and a tea house.
North of the Japanese Garden, you’ll find the Reflection Pool, the Scented Garden (with a wedding pavilion), the Maze, the Sunken Rose Garden (in bloom October and November) and the Garden of Trees. At the end of the Avenue of Remembrance is the Equal Access Playground which has a Liberty Swing that can be used by children in a wheelchair.
On the other side of the Avenue of Remembrance is where visitors will find native Australian flora and fauna, as well as a billabong.
The small Fauna Reserve was opened in 1994 and some of the animals include Eastern Grey Kangaroo, Wallaby, Red Necked Wallaby, Emu and the Common Wombat.
The Fauna Reserve is not the only place you’ll see wildlife. Peacocks, ducks, swans and other birds roam freely around the gardens.

According to the website, they will be open on new years day.
If you are going to be travelling a fair bit to get there, you might want to give Auburn council a call just to make sure.
Hope you get to enjoy the gardens.
Thanks for stopping by, and hope you have a great new year!

Would you know which garden would be the best to take wedding photos in April 2012? I know the sunken rose garden blooms in Oct/Nov, so that wouldnt be good....

Congratulations to you (or to who ever you are researching for)!
I'd recommend the Japanese Garden as it has charming little bridges, a pavilion, not to mention the lake - lots of little spots for good shots.
The reflection pool would also be great for a few photos as well.
I've just gone back and had a look at the Auburn council website as well, and apparently apart from the Japanese Garden and the Sunken Rose Garden (which is no good for April), the Scented Garden is also popular for weddings.
For the Weddings FAQs page if you haven't already had a look yourself: click here.
Good luck and thanks for dropping in!
Rusty.
