Drawing another crowd

I was among the gawkers and photo takers surrounding this street artist outside the QVB. He had taken about 5 months replicating in pastel this grim piece, The Raft of the Medusa (1819) by Théodore Géricault. All this wet weather we’ve been having must have been annoying for him.
On reading up a little about the original painting, it brings to mind the recent disaster in Italy. Apparently, the wreck of the French naval frigate Méduse in 1816, on which the painting was based, was mostly blamed on an incompetent captain.
