Naughty Ultraman phone accessory
November 14th 2012 07:29
Back when phone accessories were all the rage, in a time when attaching all sorts of dangling cute paraphernalia that sometimes weighed more than the phone itself was fashionable, a friend having returned from a trip to Japan presented me with this souvenir.
The accessory was supposed to flash a range of colours when I received a call, though it responded better to a knock on the table than to any waves my then phone ever emitted. I didn’t know much about Ultraman, only that he was a superhero that originated from a Japanese sci-fi series. I am in no way detracting from the thoughtful gesture. Souvenirs can be hard to find when you have to take into consideration the likeability, size, weight, cost, breakability, and so on, of a potential gift before the tour bus drives off without you.
This phone accessory was an appropriate gift from Japan. It was cute and quirky, involved a popular Japanese TV character, and best of all, it cracked me up when I looked closer at it. The battery may have died long ago, but this little accessory is still flashing.
