Looking Up at Birds

May 19th 2009 02:12
Magpie-lark (female)
Keeping an eye on me…

Trying to find out what bird I’d taken a picture of, I found a handy site by the Australian Museum for identifying birds (see link below). I discovered that the above photo was one of a female Magpie-lark, which by the way has no link to magpies or larks. Ah, the wonders of the internet. Back when I was a young lass, I would have had to go to the library to go through all the books on birds and it would probably still have led to the photo being named “black and white bird”.

Anyway, I’ve had a few photos I’ve been wanting to post for a while now and I hadn’t because I couldn’t come up with a “set” (which probably wasn’t the best idea, as I was saying to katyzzz in my last post). But I’d already started, and after trawling through my photo album again, I’ve finally managed to scrape up a few photos to turn into sets (others will follow later).

Oh! I love Auzzie museum too - but I still stuff up my bird IDs. I think thats more my fault though.

What I love about the internet - like you, I used to have to pour through library books and still only get scant info. That was dangerous if I had a baby animal and needed to know how to look after it - Now! But google will tell me what it needs in a few clicks. Very helpful!

Kleo, it's great that we can google or wiki almost anything now. There are some great sites like AM, but there are also some questionable ones about too.

Thanks for stopping by!
