Auburn Botanic Gardens
April 16th 2009 14:05
Tucked away in the western suburbs of Sydney are 9.2 hectares of parklands that make up the Auburn Botanic Gardens.
The main attraction and the first thing you see when you enter the gardens is the Japanese Garden complete with a lake, waterfall, lookout, bridges and a tea house.
North of the Japanese Garden, you’ll find the Reflection Pool, the Scented Garden (with a wedding pavilion), the Maze, the Sunken Rose Garden (in bloom October and November) and the Garden of Trees. At the end of the Avenue of Remembrance is the Equal Access Playground which has a Liberty Swing that can be used by children in a wheelchair.
On the other side of the Avenue of Remembrance is where visitors will find native Australian flora and fauna, as well as a billabong.
The small Fauna Reserve was opened in 1994 and some of the animals include Eastern Grey Kangaroo, Wallaby, Red Necked Wallaby, Emu and the Common Wombat.
The Fauna Reserve is not the only place you’ll see wildlife. Peacocks, ducks, swans and other birds roam freely around the gardens.
