Sculpture by the Sea 2009

October 28th 2009 04:47
The time has come again for the spectacular nature-sculpted stretch of coast between Bondi and Tamarama to be turned into an outdoor gallery

for 18 days. Over 100 sculptures by artists from around the world will be on show this year at the 13th Sculpture by the Sea exhibition.

The walk is about 2km. The path is considered medium gradient and there are several staircases, some with uneven steps. If you need a breather, or simply wish to sit back and appreciate the view, there are occasional seats along the way.

Please remember to wear a hat and sunscreen. It would also be a good idea to bring drinking water, and your swimmers for a dip at one of the beaches on a hot day.

Founded by David Handley, the exhibition has come a long way since 1997. The inaugural exhibition that year was held for a day with an estimated 25,000 visitors to see the 64 artworks. Last year, 500,000 visitors made their way to the 107 sculptures on display along the coast.

Sculptures shown here are from last year’s exhibition. For more photos to whet your appetite, please see this post.

A spectacular exhibition in a great location, I have never been but I have followed it closely, and maybe, just maybe, this year I'll get there.

Fresh air, art, a little exercise, and great beaches... it's a great day out, katyzzz. I hope you make it this year - might see you there .
