Sequels to look forward to?
December 13th 2007 02:44
Riding on the success of certain movies, film makers make sequels that don’t always measure up to the standards of the first films, let alone exceed them. Thankfully, especially for suckers for sequels like myself, there are exceptions. For me, the Last Crusade was the best out of the 3 existing Indiana Jones movies. Here are some sequels I’ve been watching out for:
Constantine 2
Constantine had cool demons and intricately designed weapons and the depiction of hell as an eternal instant of a nuclear blast was cool as… well, hell. Tilda Swinton as the crazed Gabriel and Peter Stomare as Satan who exuded repulsive magnetism, were fantastic. I wonder if they’ll be back to pester Constantine in the sequel and whether Chas (Shia LeBeouf), with his new wings, will return and what part he would play if he did.
The Mummy 3 aka The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
A grown-up Alex will awaken the mummy (Jet Li), an emperor who had been cursed by a sorceress (Michelle Yeoh). Since I can’t think of a Jet Li movie that doesn’t include a lot of cool martial arts, I’ll assume there’ll be awesome kung fu in this movie too. However, Rachel Weisz won’t be returning as Evelyn (Waaah!!!) and Mario Bello will be replacing her. At least Rick and Jonathon will still be played by the same guys…
Shrek 4 aka Shrek Goes Fourth
The first Shrek movie was magic. Shrek 2 was OK. Shrek the Third was getting a bit stale. The 4th instalment could turn out to be one of those movies where I hope the film makers would bring back the magic but most probably won’t. Might just wait for this one to come out on DVD.
28 Months Later
28 Days Later was well-written, superbly cast and I liked the brooding score. 28 Weeks Later was a good flick too but it had a formula feel to it. 28 Months Later (apparently to be set in Russia) should be interesting. How far will the infection have spread in 28 months? Will the antibody be rediscovered? Will the answer to infection be found in Russia?
Indiana Jones 4 aka Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Harrison Ford is 65 and he’s still doing stunts. Wow. The fabulous Cate Blanchett will be gracing this movie with her presence and Karen Allen, my favourite leading lady, will be making an appearance as Marion. Double wow. Sadly, we won’t be seeing Denholm Elliot who played Marcus Brody and Pat Roach, the only other guy apart from Harrison Ford to have appeared in all 3 films, as they have both passed away.

Oh My... a certain excitment to realise that there is another Indiana on the way... and still with Ford? How special for a sort-of fan.
...and, with two children born into the 'age' ... I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't a part of the Shrek Fan Club, too.
A nice heads up here, thanks.

Everything
Yes - it'd be fun to see ol' Harrison tackle the role of Indy again. And fingers crossed the next Shrek will be bigger and better than the other ones!
Thanks for dropping by~
