Everything - by The Rusty Can

I have been to a fair few weddings and I must say that the bonbonnieres have come a long way since the small bags of mints that used to be the norm.

These are 6 bonbonnieres I quite liked. There was a seventh bonbonniere that I really liked, but I have no photo of it… I ate it too quickly. It was a glorious glass of chocolate fudge. :9~

1. Key ring and mints with LOVE ribbon

This would have been quite simple to put together, and it looks great. Good choice of mints too – they were hard enough that they didn’t crack and flake all over the place after getting knocked about with the metal key ring. In case you were wondering, the word on the key ring is the Chinese character for “love”.

2. Box of mints with a green rose

According to the father of the bride, the bride made this and around a hundred others the night before the wedding. Imagine gluing the mesh and green roses on all the lids, then filling the boxes with mints, and still getting enough sleep to be alert and gorgeous the next day. Impressive.

3. Coaster and feather

You can never have too many coasters, and when you have a gazillion guests, a nice coaster dressed up with a silver ribbon and a bright feather is a brilliant idea. Not only do they look good, when you think about the logistics side of things, they’re light and you don’t have to worry about having to be delicate when handling them.

4. Teddy bear and matching pen

These were wrapped in cellophane and tied off with a ribbon, but the wrapping is long gone, so you’ll have to imagine how this cutie and the pen looked wrapped up. If I remember correctly, there were two other colours of teddy/pen sets for guests to choose from on the way out.

5. Rose candle holder
There were candle holders of different colours and styles at the reception, and all of them complemented the décor. These were placed at the centre of the table so that guests could choose their own seats

rather than feel like they (the polite ones anyway) had to sit where their bonbonnieres were. At the end of the night, small bags were handed out to the guests so that they could carry their gift home.

It did take some time getting these out of their packaging though. There were about 5 or 6 of us and it took us quite a while unwrapping them. After we got them out of their boxes, we had to get the layers of bubble wrap and paper off them, and then we had to get the plastic off the candles. However, these are ideal if you don’t want to spend time on finicky tasks like wrapping/ribbon-tying, as they look great as is.

6. Soft toy (for kids)

It’s a good idea to have toys handy when there are kids at a wedding. Receptions aren’t exactly short, and unless your wedding band is The Wiggles, small children are going to get bored pretty quickly. All the kids at this reception got some sort of a sea creature soft toy. I don’t remember what the adults got, but I’m sure they were no where near as cute as this little crab.

Today is White Day

March 14th 2008 00:51
No, it's not some holiday celebrated by supremacists. Rather, it has been a month since Valentine's Day.

In Japan, women give men chocolates on February 14. March 14 is the day for men to return the favour and give chocolates back to the women who gave them chocolates. And the chocolates the men give should be more expensive than the ones they'd received and wrapped in of course, white

New Year's Post

January 2nd 2008 07:28
I have no gripes about NYE, not the crowds, not the transport, not the weather, EXCEPT for the portaloos. WTF is wrong with some people? It was bad enough that there were no lights, but monkeys with dysentery would’ve left the loos in better condition. Seriously. Just thinking about it makes me want to hop into the shower and give myself a good scrubbing. Absolutely horrendous, it was. Makes me appreciate the real versions of Kenny even more.

But enough whinging about the disgusting habits of certain revellers

My Boxing Day

December 27th 2007 06:35
After running around like a headless chook for the days leading up to Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, Boxing Day was pleasantly uneventful. My nails are still stained by herbs; my hands still smell faintly of garlic and they look leprous (on account of all the washing, cooking and cleaning that had to be done); the juices of various animals have been cleaned from my clothes and table cloths; the leftovers are slowly disappearing so it's getting easier to play Tetris in the fridge; and I’ve just noticed a small burn on my wrist, but Christmas is over for another year.

Went to see The Golden Compass yesterday and I swear I heard chipmunks sing and then Donald Duck singing (Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way... quack quack quack, quack quack quack, quack quack…) before they put the movie on. Weird
