Splitting hairs

It isn’t easy finding a good hairdresser. I wouldn’t say that I’m fussy when it comes to getting my hair cut, but there are things that have kept me from going back to a hairdresser. In no particular order, some of these things include:
1. Drawing blood
I’d already had my hair cut and it was my sister’s turn. A few more customers turned up and the hairdresser started to rush. I was reading a magazine and heard the hairdresser apologise. My sister looked ok, so I went back to reading. It wasn’t until after we’d left that I saw that the side of my sister’s neck was bleeding. She said she got jabbed a few times in the back of one ear too.
2. Attitude
The guy didn’t smile back; he didn’t smile once. He cut my hair like it was beneath him and took my money like it was a chore. I was thinking maybe he was just having a bad day until he started fawning over the next customer that came in.
3. Salesman in barber’s clothing
The guy found grey hairs and said I should dye my hair. He stopped cutting and explained that I should get streaks like him. I said I didn’t care about the greys and in any case, I didn’t want to damage my hair by colouring it. He said then I should use this “serum”, then fetched an overpriced, half-filled, tiny bottle and started instructing me on how to use it. I said no thanks and he brought a range of other stuff to show me while I sat there with most of my wet hair held hostage in clips on the top of my head.
4. Too big a Harry Potter fan
I told the lady I wanted short hair. She said it wouldn’t suit my face shape. I told her I’d had my hair cut short many times before. She smiled and nodded and I still left with a Severus Snape hair cut.
******
Carol is the best hairdresser I’ve ever had. Reasonably priced, friendly, free with hair care tips and only talked about products when asked to recommend something. Best of all, she knew how to manage my hair. I always left the salon happy with what she’d done.
She had probably cut my hair for more than 5 years. Then she was gone.
I went to the salon one day and she wasn’t in. Her boss said she didn’t work there anymore. Clipped. End of discussion.
Perhaps she went and started her own business?
The boss did a terrible job. The blade she used hadn’t been sharp enough and I found split ends within the month.
You’d think people would raise their game with so much competition around. But maybe it’s not them. Maybe it’s me. Maybe I have become fussy. Carol has ruined me for other hairdressers.

Flick Wit
I have tried extremely overpriced salons in the hopes that they have higher standards - but nope, no joy.
The worst two hairdressers I have been to:
One that made me want to snatch her scissors and slit my own throat if she did not stop talking... the most irritating, over the top, fake person I have ever met. And a lot of her conversation revolved around what I should do - with my hair, with my career, with my personal life...
One that left me with a completely uneven cut, which, when haphazardly half-dried, turned out to be way too short and made me look like a twit. And I had bits of hair stuck all over me and was supposed to be going out an hour later.
That industry needs to be severely regulated!
Wish me luck today...
Good post.

Everything
That fake hairdresser sounds so annoying! I've had versions of her but not quite so bad. I've had to walk around with tiny bits of hair stuck all over too - didn't know until I met up with friends and they told me.
Hope you get a fabulous haircut today!
Thanks for stopping by~
