The Magician: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel
April 3rd 2009 00:57
Book 2 of The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott
Michael Scott breathes life again into creatures of myth and people in history in the second volume of this fast-paced adventure. He continues to intrigue and impress as he expands the extraordinary world he has created by further revealing the nature of magic and the use of auras, and by introducing more fantastic creatures, immortal humans and formidable Elders while also adding to the fascinating histories of the main characters, and tying their pasts with their present predicaments.
Two days after Josh discovered that his boss was the legendary Nicholas Flamel, he and his twin sister Sophie find themselves in Paris with Flamel and his friend of the Elder Race, Scathach.
Back in the country of his birth, Nicholas is able to find refuge with an old student, Saint-Germain, a rock star in the modern world, husband to Joan of Arc, and the Master of Fire.
Sophie has received the knowledge to control the elemental magic, Air and now she can learn the Magic of Fire as well. Josh, however, has yet to have his powers Awakened.
In Paris, Dr John Dee is forced to work with Nicolo Machiavelli, another immortal servant of the Dark Elders to hunt down Flamel and the pages of the Book of Abraham the alchemyst is protecting.
Dee and Machiavelli call those Elders also known as Valkyries to their aid, and the ancient warriors summon a terrible beast they may not have the power to control – Nidhogg, the Devourer of Corpses.
Dee also intends to capture Josh to further his own ends, and with Josh’s simmering distrust of Flamel for risking their lives and jealousy of his sister’s burgeoning abilities, he is primed for the magician’s manipulation.
Meanwhile in the United States Perenelle, like her husband, is growing a year older for every day she is without the Book. Guarded by a sphinx that nullifies her powers, the sorceress must outwit her jailor in order to escape the island prison, Alcatraz and find Nicholas before their time runs out.
