Brickpit Ring Walk

See where the bricks that built Sydney came from on a 550 metre Ring Walk. The walk is 18.5 metres above the century-old Brickpit, which is also home to the endangered Green & Golden Bell Frog.
Discover the history of the Brickpit, from its opening to its closing and the highs and lows in between accompanied by recordings of actual workers sharing their experiences. Learn about the brick making process starting with winning or extracting the shale from the pit to the final stage, classing – sorting the bricks for damage or variation in shape and colour.
To the cacophony of frog and bird calls from the overhead speakers, learn about the Green & Golden Bell Frog and other frogs in the area, their food, habitat and interesting trivia like how frogs use their eye sockets to help swallow food.
Last but not least, read about the impact humans have on the environment and urban ecology; the birds, trees and shrubs found in the area and the replanting of native flora including the Turpentine Ironbark to restore the Brickpit.
The Brickpit Ring Walk can be accessed via Marjorie Jackson Parkway or Australia Avenue, Sydney Olympic Park.
